Solomons Lump Lighthouse marks the entrance to Kedges Strait, between the Chesapeake Bay and Tangier Sound, off of Smith Island, Maryland. The picture above illustrates the light as it is now. There used to be a house for the keeper next to the tower. This was removed after the light was automated in 1950. The light was built in 1895, after previous attempts were unsuccessful due to ineffectiveness in marking the shoals and ice knocking over the structure.
